Vu sur Reddit: Ouch. Community problems…

31 juillet 2021 0 Par

Long time lurker, made an account just for this.

I think I just saw some kid get bulled off of Instagram by a bigger creator over pretty much nothing. I’m pretty sure this has been talked about before, but I felt like it should be discussed again. I’ll explain what I saw at the end.

I have a few questions.

Has anyone experienced something like this before? How often is this issue present? What is you’re personal experience in this community overall, on all platforms, not just this one. Has it been good? Negative? How would you feel if something like this happened to you? If you were ridiculed for something you enjoy. How would that affect you?
Is there any possible way that we can improve?

I should also mention, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen something like this happen. This is just the one that finally pushed me over the edge. To some, you might not care at all, think it’s no big deal, and that’s fine. Again… if this wasn’t the first time I’ve personally seen something like this, I probably wouldn’t be typing this at all.

A little backstory from what I saw. I’ve been following this guy for a while, and have since unfollowed, I can’t support anyone who spreads negativity. This guy made a post on his story just recently to harass some kid. So, about the kid… This kid had been posting videos, mediocre at best, no crazy edits, just short videos of him flipping. Thought nothing of it. Then in the description it said something like – « Daily video until I’m sponsored. » Pretty bold, but not at all bad. Either way good on him, if that’s his goal then so be it. I can see how it might come off as un-authentic to some but he’s not hurting anyone, he can do whatever he likes. Then comes in the bigger creator who called him out. Keep in mind, this guy has about 750x more followers than this kid. And this guy just starts slamming this kid in the comments. I would type it out word for word but the account has since been made private. So bare with me, it went something along the lines of, « You’ve got a 0% chance of getting sponsored, being sponsored means you represent a brand with your skills and being a public figure. And you’ve got neither. 🙂 » The kid replied with, « That makes two of us then. » (lol) Then the guy starts going on a tangent, bragging about how he has sponsors and lots of followers and how he’s got people who praise him for how good he is. Back and forth banter. Then one of his fans come in and start talking shit too. All of this to a kid who’s got a whopping 4 whole followers. Doesn’t sound very « brand » worthy to me. Being brand worthy is a whole lot more than just being good at what you do…

I hope the kid does get sponsored one day, just to spite people like this guy. If you’re someone just like this guy, chill dude, instead of attacking someone, just try telling them, like in this situation, if you really had a problem with it that much, if you felt he wasn’t being genuine, maybe just try telling the kid that he sounds a little ingenuine, don’t attack him, help him. You’re just making this community look bad and making yourself look even worse. We’re all in this together, be kind and help your fellow flippers. « Don’t be a dick, it’s not hard. » 😉

Moral of the story, don’t let douchebags like this bring you down.
